CCS 2011 China Regional Spelling Bee Competition Information for Schools
Which Schools Are Eligible to Participate?
This year, the CCS Spelling Bee is still "By Invitation" only. By September 1st, 2009, CCS will send out email invitations to your school to participate. If your school has received an invitation, please respond by logging onto www.spellingbeechina.com, and register to attend the information session to be held in Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou.

If your school would like to participate, but have not received an invitation from CCS by Sept 5th, 2009, please contact CCS at spellingbee@communitycenter.cn, or call 021-3382-1770, and let us know your interest to attend. If there is still availability, CCS will contact you to let you know about your participation.

Attend the Information Sessions
It is very important that your school send a representative to attend the FREE information session held by CCS in all 3 cities. Each school is allowed to send up to 2 people. We recommend either the Middle School Principal, the Academic Director, the English Department Head, or an English teacher to attend. Don't miss this opportunity to hear the competition rules and have all your questions answered!

School Spelling Bee Registration – Deadline 10/10/2009
The Registration deadline is strictly reinforced by E.W. Scripps. As a China regional participant, your school must register with CCS. To register, Registration Fee – Deadline 10/25/2009
There is a registration fee of 10,000 RMB for each school participating in the competition. The payment deadline to complete your registration is 10/25/2009.  The registration fee covers the Scripps fee for each school enrolled, the "Spell It" books for each student participating in the competition, the venue, judges, prizes, and other operation costs of the competition. Please send in your payment via wire transfer to:

   Community Center Consulting Company

   COMPANY NAME( 户名):上海众途文化交流策划有限公司
   BANK NAME(开户银行):  工商银行上海市金桥支行
   ACCOUNT NUMBER(帐号):1001281209006780141

Fee Waiver

CCS encourages all eligible schools to participate in the "Spelling Bee". If your school is not able to pay the registration fee, please fill out the "Fee Waive" request on the Registration Form before sending it in. Last year, we waived fees for all public schools enrolled in the competition. The general guideline for fee waiver is if your school does not charge tuition, CCS will waive the fee.  If your school has other special circumstances, please indicate that on the "Fee Waiver" Application section. We will review your request and notify you about CCS's decision. Once your request is approved by the CCS , we will find a sponsor for your school.

Lock in 4 Dates on your School Calendar

Once you have registered, it is important that you block off four dates in your school calendar. Because the Spelling Bee Competition test content is given by the United States E.W. Scripps Company, they require that all competitions in the China region to be held on the same day, at the same time, to avoid leaking of test information.

Jan 19th, 2011:
Round 1 - School-wide Spelling Bee Written Test
Feb 23rd , 2011:  Round 2 - School Champion Competition
Feb 27th, 2011:  Round 3 - City Finalists competition (Beijing competition begins on Feb 28th)
March 19th, 2011:  Round 4 - China Regional "Spelling Bee" Final Competition and Award Ceremony

Appoint a School "Bee Coordinator"
Each school that participates in the Spelling Bee Contest must appoint a school "Bee Coordinator" as a point of contact for CCS, and the Bee Coordinator will be the school representative to:
  • Participate in CCS "Bee Coordinator" meetings
  • Receive test material before the tests are held in your school, and guard confidentiality.
  • Accompany your school winners to the City Level Semi-final competition.
