Every year, the finalists of Spelling Bee from all the regions and countries of the Spelling Bee gather in the Capital of United States, Washington DC, for a final competition.
The May 2009 Competition has produced the following winners: |

- $30,000 cash prize and an engraved trophy – Scripps
- $2,500 U.S. savings bond and a complete reference library – Merriam-Webster
- $5,000 scholarship – Sigma Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation
- $2,800 in reference works and the Britannica Test Prep Precocious Program valued at $799 – Encyclopaedia Britannica

- Each Spelling Bee finalist received cash prizes, ranging from 100 USD for the preliminaries to 3,000 USD for fourth place
- A Webster's Third New International Dicitionary, Unabriged on CD-ROM
- The Samuel Louis Sugarman Award – a $100 U.S. savings bond
